This afternoon we have a very simple race, 17 boats, start in the tiny river of L’Aber Wrach, 150m wide channel with razor sharp rocks either side then around the break water at Plymouth and back. Easy, the only problems being a forecast of 30-40 knots mid channel with big steep waves and a strong lineup of competitors, including most of the top rookies entered in the Solitaire next month.
After a quick shake down sail at 6am thins morning Artemis 77 is ready to go. Food and kit is all stowed away, all the heavy gear is where it should be, on the windward side at the back and the rig and the rudders at set for maximum roughness. The only challenge now is to get to sleep for three hours before the start at 1830, the excitement is getting a but too much.
